HOCKEY STICKS
Introduction: Hockey sticks are essential equipments used in roller hockey, ice hockey and field hockey for the purpose of moving the puck or the ball. The hockey stick is an elongated stick made of wood, which has a distinct curve at its end. This curve helps in the maneuvering of the puck or the ball during the play. Field Hockey Stick: The end of the field hockey sticks vary based on the position of the players. As much as four main variations are observed in hockey sticks, namely, the shorti, the midi and the maxi. The shorti end hockey stick is mainly used in case of maximum control over the ball and also, the increase in the level of maneuverability. “Shorti” is mainly associated with the position of the mid-field. Midi is mostly used by players who often hit the ball. “Midi” stick is mostly associated with the up-front position or the hockey striker. The “Maxi” is almost similar as compared to the “Midi”. The only difference between the two is the surface area. “Maxi” has an increased surface area than the “Midi”. The “Maxi” is mostly used in stopping the ball. A hockey stick having a “Maxi” head is mostly used by the attackers and the defenders. Ice Hockey Stick: The length of an average ice hockey stick is about 150 to 200 centimeters. It comprises of a slender and long shaft with a flat extension at one of its ends. This end is known as the blade. The dimensions of the ice hockey stick may vary based on the size of the player. |
