INLINE HOCKEY
Introduction:
Inline hockey is a standardized form of roller hockey and is quite similar from its derived source ice hockey. Inline hockey is played by two teams that consist of one goalie, and four skaters, on a rink that is parted into two halves by a center line, comprised of one net at each end of the rink. Time duration of 20-minutes is provided to play the game.
Major Differences from Ice Hockey:
The chief rules that differentiates inline hockey from ice hockey are as follows:
- There are no offsides in the USA inline hockey.
- To target the puck only physical contact is permitted in inline hockey.
- Icing is not assigned.
- The game often results in a free flow, as the players manage to spend more time on the puck.
- Neutral zone is absent in inline hockey.
- Ice hockey players wear a sock on their shin pads, while inline hockey players wear pants.
- A goalie along with 4 players generally play inline hockey from each team on the surface, at any particular time.
- The ball used in inline hockey may contain liquid or may be hollow. Generally, inline hockey is played with a ball or with a puck made of plastic, which is comparatively lighter than the ice-hockey puck.
Sanctioning Bodies:
The bodies that are connected to the ice hockey community and to the roller sports community are the two lines of sanctioning bodies for inline hockey. Inline hockey is worldwide governed by International Ice Hockey Federation.
