ICE HOCKEY GAMEPLAY
Introduction: Although, the general characteristics of the ice hockey remains the same at whichever venue the game is played, the precise rules depends on the code of play which is used. The two prominent codes include that of the North American National Hockey League (NHL) and that of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The amateur hockey codes such as those of the USA Hockey and Hockey Canada are a hybrid of the codes of IIHF and the NHL. The professional ice hockey rules normally follow the regulations stipulated by the National Hockey League. Game Play of Ice Hockey: Ice hockey is mostly played on a large slab of ice known as the ice rink. Normally six players on each side, play the game of ice hockey with the help of ice skates. Each sides comprises of a single goalkeeper and five players. The main aim of the game is the scoring of goals by shooting the puck. The puck is a disk of hard vulcanized rubber. The ice hockey players can maneuver the puck with the help of a long stick, which is also known as the ice hockey stick. The stick used in ice hockey has a distinct curve at its one end. Miscellaneous: Subject to some restrictions, the players can redirect the puck using any part of their bodies. In addition, the players can also angle the feet for the redirection of the puck into the net. No kicking motion is allowed in ice hockey. Also, intentional use of hand to bat the puck in the net is also not allowed. |
